Viasat, the pay-television operator run by multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group, has unveiled plans to offer coverage of the Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games in virtual reality and ultra-high-definition formats in Sweden.
Viasat claims it will be the first broadcaster in Europe to offer both of the formats.
The new Viasat Ultra HD channel will be launched in Sweden ahead of the Games’ opening ceremony on August 5. Viasat Sport 360 will be free to Gear VR owners from August 2 and from the Google Play store from August 23.
The coverage will be available to all Viasat Sport and Viasat Satellite subscribers. The coverage will be shown in the formats with a one-hour delay.
