French digital-terrestrial television broadcaster W9 has secured rights to broadcast the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup national team football tournament.
Writing on his Twitter account, W9 general manager Jerome Fouqueray said the broadcaster will provide the tournament on a free-to-air basis in France next summer.
The announcement comes after pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport yesterday (Monday) acquired rights for a series of tournaments operated by football’s global governing body, including the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
The deal covered all European territories, excluding Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
The showpiece event of women’s football will be hosted by Canada from June 6 to July 5. France has been drawn to face England, Colombia and Mexico in the group stages.
