International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has acquired rights in the US to the games of Canadian rugby league team Toronto Wolfpack, which has been labelled the world’s first transatlantic sports club.
The length of the agreement was not disclosed, but Eleven will show live and exclusive coverage in the US of every Wolfpack game as it attempts to climb up the English rugby league pyramid.
The Wolfpack made its debut for the 2017 League 1 season and currently sits top of the third-tier competition.
Danny Menken, group managing director of Eleven Sports, said: “We are committed to delivering content for underserved fans in the US and the fast-paced, dynamic nature of rugby league is well suited to our target millennial audience. The Wolfpack are a very ambitious club striving to reach the Super League. We are excited to tell their unique story and take the fans on this fantastic journey.”
