The 2014 edition of the World Mind Games has secured 22 broadcast partnerships worldwide, including 11 that will show the ongoing Beijing event across Asia and Europe.
Organisers SportAccord estimate that this amounts to a reach of 61 million homes over 44 territories – the largest for any edition of the World Mind Games.
Coverage from the World Mind Games, which got underway yesterday (Thursday) and runs through to December 17, will be divided into three elements – a daily four-hour live broadcast, daily 26-minute highlights show and a concluding 52-minute highlights show.
Under the agreements put in place by the World Mind Games official television rights distribution and production partner IEC in Sports, European news broadcaster Euronews and pay-television sports broadcaster Setanta Africa have partnered with the event for the first time, while a rights deal with the Asian Broadcasting Union covers 14 broadcasters from the continent.
SportAccord director general Vlad Marinsecu said: “Together with IEC in Sports, we have been able to take the World Mind Games to the largest audience numbers across the world. We are confident that television coverage of the event would be able to power the aspirations of countless mind sports enthusiasts across the world, and this year would be the cornerstone for all future editions of the event.”
