Finnish public-service broadcaster YLE has acquired rights for events operated by Fiba, basketball’s global governing body.
The deal will cover the 2017 to 2021 cycle of Fiba events.
The agreement includes coverage of Finland’s national men’s team at the EuroBasket 2017 tournament, which will take place in Helsinki, as well as qualifiers and final-round action for the 2019 Basketball World Cup and the EuroBasket 2021 tournament.
The deal was struck ahead of a new competition system, which is being introduced by Fiba in November. Under the new structure, national teams will play regular games in qualifying windows held throughout the year to qualify for the Basketball World Cup and the Continental Cups in 2021, including the EuroBasket Cup 2021 competition.
