The Scottish Premier League has announced a partnership with YouTube that will allow the video-sharing website to show match highlights and exclusive content from the top division of football in Scotland.
Under the three-year rights deal, from 2012-13 to 2014-15, YouTube will be able to show the content on a global basis through the league’s ‘SPLOfficial’ channel on the website.
In the UK and Ireland, footage of matches held on Saturdays will be available from 6pm on Sundays, and footage of games on all other days will be available from midnight.
Outside the UK and Ireland, footage of matches held on Saturdays will be available from 10pm on Saturdays, and for games on all other days, the footage will be available from midnight.
According to Stephen Nuttall, senior director of sports for YouTube’s Europe, Middle East and Africa division, “football fans worldwide naturally go to YouTube to catch up on goals and highlights.”
The league’s commercial manager, Stuart MacPhee, said: “Launching the ‘SPLOfficial’ channel represents a new chapter in online fan engagement for our league.”
Last month, YouTube agreed a similar global rights deal to show action from Ligue 1, the top-tier French football league. The deal will run for four seasons, from 2012-13 to 2015-16.
