Video-sharing website YouTube has agreed a deal with the Sri Lanka Premier League’s commercial rights-holder, the Somerset Entertainment Ventures sports marketing and investment vehicle, to show the inaugural season of the Twenty20 cricket tournament.
YouTube will stream all 24 matches live through an officially-branded channel on the website to viewers worldwide.
Upali Dharmadasa, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket, the tournament’s governing body, said that YouTube would help to increase the reach of the league.
The league will run from August 11-31, with seven teams participating on behalf of the Sri Lanka provinces of Basnahira, Kandurata, Nagenahira, Ruhuna, Uthura, Uva and Wayamaba.
