Basketball’s Euroleague said this week the complaint it lodged at the European Commission against the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) in February could have far-reaching consequences.

Italy’s top basketball league, Lega Basket Serie A, has more than doubled the value of its international rights in a renewal with the MP & Silva agency.

Interview with Eduard Scott, chief operations officer of Euroleague Basketball, on the league’s complaint to the European Commission about Fiba and the recent Munich Court injunction against Fiba Europe sanctions.

The takeover of the MP & Silva agency by Chinese investors Everbright Securities and Baofeng Technology will provide the agency with a platform for expansion to close the gap on its bigger rivals.

The revamp of Turkish professional football agreed earlier this month, which will give Süper Lig clubs control over their media-rights sales, has been guided by sports consultancy Opto Advisers.

Union Cycliste Internationale president Brian Cookson said it sold its rights to the European Broadcasting Union as the EBU was “the best player in the market to place our events on free-to-air broadcasters across Europe”.

The MP & Silva agency is thought to have paid an increase of just under 35 per cent to renew its global rights deal with Italy’s top men’s volleyball league, Lega Pallavolo Serie A.

Sky Italia’s deal for International Basketball Federation (Fiba) national team rights this month is part of a broader plan to help revive the fortunes of the sport in Italy.

The investigation by Italy’s antitrust authority into the sale of Serie A rights, which led to €66m ($75m) in fines being handed down this month, centred on negotiations in a four-day period in June 2014 after bids had been made.

Uefa will secure an increase of just over 30 per cent in the value of media rights to the Euro 2016 tournament compared to Euro 2012, according to research by TV Sports Markets.
