US sports broadcaster ESPN has acquired rights to the Australian W-League women’s club football competition.
The length of the agreement was not disclosed, but the deal will at least cover the 2016-17 W-League campaign, which gets underway on Saturday.
ESPN will broadcast games live via its ESPN3 digital service.
A number of American players have joined W-League clubs ahead of the new season, including US international Erika Tymrak, who has signed for Melbourne City on loan from FC Kansas City of the National Women's Soccer League.
