Bandsports lands French Open rights

Brazilian pay-television broadcaster Bandsports has acquired exclusive rights for the French Open tennis tournament for five years, from 2013 to 2017.

ESPN, which broadcast the tournament this year, and rival broadcasters SporTV, Fox Sports and Sports Interactive were also in the running for the new rights deal, Bandsports said.

Bandsports will show at least 30 men’s and women’s matches every year.
The rights cover free-to-air and pay-television, internet, mobile and radio platforms.

“The agreement includes simultaneous live broadcasts of different matches on each media platform,” Bandsports production and acquisitions director Evandro Figueira said.
