UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has entered into a partnership with Gfinity, through which it will showcase the esports company’s Elite Series competition.
Under the agreement, a weekly contest will be shown on the BBC Three online channel. The first live broadcast of the Elite Series has been scheduled for later today (Friday).
Gfinity said that the partnership marked the first of its kind between the BBC and an esports property.
As well as live matches, BBC Three will show lifestyle segments and editorial coverage.
The Elite Series will run for six weeks and feature a total prize fund of £225,000 (€251,000/$294,000). Gamers will compete in titles such as Street Fighter V, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Rocket League.
