Charles Biétry will leave his role as vice-president of beIN Sport, the French pay-television broadcaster, on January 31, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.
Biétry is expected to remain a consultant to Nasser al-Khelaifi, the president of beIN Sport, advising him on the global development of the business, according to another French newspaper, L’Équipe.
The report said that Biétry was leaving beIN Sport, which is operated by Qatari pay-television broadcaster Al Jazeera, after internal disagreements regarding some rights acquisitions, particularly in boxing.
It is unclear whether Biétry will be replaced, but the newspaper said that lawyer Sophie Jordan, who has resolved some “key issues” since beIN Sport was launched in France last summer, would take additional responsibility for finance at the two sports channels, beIN Sport 1 and beIN Sport 2.
Biétry joined Al Jazeera in June 2011 after quitting rival pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus.
According to French newspaper Les Echos, beIN Sport has attracted more than one million subscribers since its launch, and is aiming to surpass two million subscribers by the end of 2013.
