Blanket UK coverage allows DAZN to offer all Premier League matches in Spain

International subscription streaming service DAZN will broadcast all remaining matches from the English Premier League this season in Spain.

SportBusiness understands that DAZN’s current three-season deal with the league, from 2019-20 to 2021-22, dictates that the streaming platform can show those matches that are televised in the UK.

The Premier League is set to resume on June 17 following the suspension caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and will enjoy blanket live coverage domestically. The remaining 92 matches will be broadcast live in the UK across the league’s existing domestic rights-holders: Sky Sports (64 matches), BT Sport (20), the BBC (4) and Amazon (4).

Therefore, DAZN can now broadcast the same 92 matches in Spain.

The streaming service also holds Premier League rights in the same 2019-22 cycle in Brazil, Canada, Japan and the Philippines. In Canada, Japan and the Philippines, its deals already covered all matches and therefore DAZN will be able to offer coverage of all matches from the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

In Brazil, DAZN sublicenses two matches per match-week from sports broadcaster ESPN and will continue to do so. DAZN also acquired Premier League rights in South America (excluding Brazil) directly from the league, but sublicensed all those rights to ESPN in a separate agreement.
