Brondby set to be included in new Danish football tender

A tender for the media rights to the Superligaen, the top division of Danish football, is expected to be issued next week and will include all 12 teams, according to the Mediawatch.dk website.

The tender will cover the six-year period spanning 2015-16 to 2020-21. It will include rights for the second tier Ligaen and the DBU Pokalen cup competition.

Superligaen club Brondby in February announced that it would exit the top division of Danish football’s collective broadcast rights agreement when the current deal expires in July 2015.

The Copenhagen club’s announcement came after it failed to reach an understanding on the approach to the Superligaen’s next set of broadcast rights. Brondby had argued that the current system of broadcast revenue distribution did not reward those clubs who provided the highest ratings for game broadcasts.

However, Mediawatch.dk said that Brondby will be included in the new tender. “The board of Brondby basically wants to be part of the community in Danish football, and the goal is to find a constructive and viable solution to the issue of the sale of television rights in the summer of 2015,” Brondby’s communications and marketing director Anders Bay told the Ekstra Bladet newspaper.
