Media conglomerate Prisa will withdraw its sports-focused Canal Plus 2 pay-television channel from Spanish digital-terrestrial television at the end of December, because it failed to attract enough subscribers, according to media news website Advanced Television.
Canal Plus 2 was created in August 2010 to challenge rights agency Mediapro’s football-dedicated Gol TV channel. Gol TV has around 300,000 subscribers, but Canal Plus 2 only managed to attract around 1,000.
Canal Plus 2’s DTT slot will be taken by Energy, a channel that will be operated by pay-television operator Mediaset and will target a male audience.
