CBS Sports grants wide exposure for CrossFit Games

The CBS Sports division of US network CBS has agreed a two-year rights deal with mass participation event organiser CrossFit.

The agreement will result in the CrossFit Games being showcased throughout 2017 and 2018 on CBS, CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Digital.

Coverage of the CrossFit Games debuted on July 20 as CBS Sports Network aired preview shows highlighting the competitors and history of the Games. For the 2017 CrossFit Games, which is being held in Madison, Wisconsin from August 3-6, CBS Sports Network will televise two hours of main competition coverage nightly.

Additionally, starting on October 16 and running through to the end of 2017, CBS Sports Network will televise multiple, one-hour specials highlighting the athletes and various individual competitions from the Games. The network will also air two hours of the CrossFit Invitational in early December.

CBS Sports Digital will stream up to 40 hours of live event coverage of the 2017 CrossFit Games on CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports app for connected television and mobile devices.

The CrossFit Games claims to be the single largest participatory sporting event in the world with nearly 400,000 athletes from more than 175 countries.

Dan Weinberg, executive vice-president of programming for CBS Sports, said: “Competitive fitness is a high-growth sports genre and adding CrossFit to our programming expands our commitment to the space.”
