The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, CyTA, has agreed a deal with pay-television broadcaster Lumiere to show coverage of the Bundesliga, the top division of football in Germany, according to the Cyprus Mail newspaper.
CyTA also expects to acquire rights to the English Premier League top football division from Lumiere as part of the arrangement with the pay-television broadcaster, the report added.
CyTA has acquired the rights as part of a deal to pay Lumiere €500,000 so that the pay-television broadcaster could pay Cypriot football club Apoel Nicosia a €670,000 instalment as part of a rights deal. Lumiere still owes the club about €300,000, the report added.
The newspaper said that CyTA is also interested in acquiring the rights of Apoel. Lumiere has the team’s rights until 2016.
