OTT subscription platform DAZN is reportedly close to a deal to broadcast the 2020 Paranaense state championship, according to reports in Brazil.
Samir Namur, president of Brazilian football club Coritiba Samir Namur told the Gazeta do Povo newspaper that DAZN has submitted a proposal for the rights to Hélio Curry, president of the Paranaense Football Federation.
Namur said that there are only a few details to be closed, but stressed that no agreement is signed yet.
It is claimed that the 12 competing clubs in the Paranaense league have already accepted DAZN’s offer in principle.
The offer would reportedly see each team receive R$370,000 (€79,000/$88,000). That amount is thought to be roughly R$100,000 less than in its previous rights deal with Brazilian free-to-air broadcaster Globo. Globo told the PFF in November that it would not be renewing its deal.
DAZN launched its Brazilian operation in May and costs R$37.90 per month.
The platform currently boasts the rights the Euroleague basketball until 2023 as well as Brazil’s domestic basketball league until 2022 among other properties such as the Copa Sudamericana, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1.
