DFL creates media production subsidiary

The Deutsche Fussball Liga, the German football league, is setting up a subsidiary company to handle the production of its media content.

The DFL said “increasing technical and creative demands” related to producing media content for international media partners and internal platforms was the reason behind the launch.

Based in Cologne, the new body’s tasks include developing the league’s websites and managing its media archives. Tom Bender will head the new body’s management starting on September 1, giving up his positions in the DFL Management and the League Association Managing Board.

“In addition to the production of the base signals and the worldwide marketing of the available rights, the creation and technical distribution of media content will also take place in a specially designed structure,” Christian Seifert, the league’s chief executive said. “Just like with Sportcast (which handles the technical side of television production for the league) and DFL Sports Enterprises (which markets the league’s commercial rights, including television rights), we are establishing additional synergies and knowhow. The league and the clubs will profit from the future expertise of the new unit, to which the clubs also have access.”
