DFL opens up Bundesliga archive with new VOD platform

The German Football League (DFL) has said it will launch a new video-on-demand platform focusing on the history of the Bundesliga, with pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland signing on as its first partner.

The new initiative will commence ahead of the start of the 2015-16 season of the top division of German football.

The DFL stressed that it will not include content related to the Bundesliga season in progress and will instead focus on archive imagery and footage from the 52-year history of the league.

DFL chief executive Christian Seifert said: “The new platform offers fans the many emotions of the Bundesliga’s history on demand. Unforgettable games, historical highlights of the season, portraits of the best Bundesliga players of all time and much more. The audience will be able to decide when and how they want to see the quality produced formats.”
