Pay-television broadcaster beIN Media Group has acquired exclusive rights in the Asia-Pacific and Mena regions to Novak Djokovic’s Adria Tour, an eight-man tennis tournament set up by the Serbian tennis star.
The broadcaster will air the tournament, which will take place across the Balkan countries, in 24 countries spanning the Middle East and North Africa.
Rights have been secured in 11 countries and territories in the APAC region, namely Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, East Timor, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Profits from the tournament, which is supported by the Novak Djokovic Foundation, are to be donated to national federations and Covid-19 relief funds.
Richard Verow, chief sports officer at beIN Media Group, said: “At a time when live sports are gradually and safely coming back to our screens, beIN Sports is thrilled to have secured the rights to the first competitive tennis tournament in months for fans to enjoy exclusively across 35 countries, spanning Asia Pacific and the Middle East and North Africa.
“The Adria Tour will also importantly raise money for Covid-19 relief funds, something which beIN is very supportive of through our partnership with the World Health Organization.”
The event will start in Belgrade, the Serbian capital and Djokovic’s hometown, on June 13. Players to have committed to the tournament include Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov and Croatia’s Marin Čilić.
