The Comité Olímpico Dominicano, the national Olympic committee in the Dominican Republic, has agreed a deal with state broadcaster CERTV to launch a new free-to-air sports television channel, according to the Proceso news website.
The channel will provide coverage of sporting events in the country and from abroad, the report said.
The channel will be operated by the national Olympic committee and be available nationwide.
“By accepting this partnership we are contributing to education and national development,” CERTV director general Pedro Caba said.
National Olympic committee president Luis Mejia added that the channel would “provide a substantial change” for sport in the country as it will be available to the entire nation. He added that the committee is working on developing the infrastructure required to support the channel.
A launch date has not been confirmed yet, but the channel will be able to broadcast 24 hours per day.
