DOSB New Media, which operates the online streaming service, Sportdeutschland.TV, has extended its deal for rights in Germany to the country’s second-tier 2. Handball-Bundesliga until 2022-23.
The three-season extension, from 2020-21, is with pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland, which holds domestic rights to the league as part of its wider agreement with the top-tier Handball-Bundesliga, from 2017-18 to 2022-23.
DOSB New Media, the media arm of the German Olympic Sports Confederation, sublicensed rights to the league from Sky from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
Sportdeutschland.TV will continue to stream all matches from the league.
The streaming platform broadcast the 2020 men’s European Handball Championship through a sublicensing deal between DOSB Media and Discovery-owned sports broadcaster Eurosport.
It also also broadcasts International Handball Federation men’s and women’s World Championships following a deal, from 2018 to 2025, between its majority-owner ProSiebenSat.1 Group and the Sportfive agency, the IHF international rights holder.
Last month, DOSB agreed an extension to its sublicensing deal with the SportA agency for a swathe content which included 36 German sporting bodies rights.
