Dynamo secures Spanish-language platform

US Spanish-language cable-television broadcaster Mega TV has acquired local broadcast rights for games featuring Major League Soccer franchise the Houston Dynamo.

Mega TV, which is operated by media company Spanish Broadcasting System, will broadcast seven of the team’s away games in the 2013 season.

The broadcaster will also broadcast 30-minute pre- and post-game shows and will provide highlights of the team’s games in its weekly magazine programme, Portada.

The length of the deal was not disclosed.

Mega TV’s coverage will be simulcast on regional cable-television broadcaster Comcast SportsNet Houston, which has rights to Dynamo home and away games in a three-year deal, from 2013 to 2015.

“We feel it is very important for us to have Dynamo games available on Spanish language television, and this deal allows us to continue that tradition,” Dynamo president Chris Canetti said. “Mega TV is a rapidly growing station among the Houston television landscape and is fully distributed in the marketplace.”
