The Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing body for swimming in Europe, has announced a new partnership for its Champions League club water polo competition with the European Broadcasting Union, the consortium of public-service broadcasters.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but LEN said the EBU will become the “most important partner” in promoting the Champions League.
Under the partnership, LEN said the EBU guarantees live coverage of 60 matches in the 2014-15 season’s preliminary rounds, along with all matches of the Final Six tournament.
The 2014-15 Champions League begins on September 26 with the first qualification round, while the preliminaries start on November 29 and the Final Six tournament will take place in Barcelona on May 28-30.
In April 2012, the EBU renewed it rights deal with the LEN for four years, from 2013 to 2016.
The EBU distributes the worldwide media rights across all media platforms to all of LEN’s major events including the European Swimming Championships, the European Short Course Championships and the European Water Polo Championships.
