Elite Football League of India secures global rights deal

South Asian pay-television broadcaster Ten Sports has acquired the global broadcast rights to a new American Football competition, the Elite Football League of India, in a five-year deal from 2012 to 2016.

The deal covers rights across all media platforms, including cable, satellite and free-to-air television, IPTV, mobile and internet.

Ten Sports will show live coverage of four matches per week – a total of 370 matches over five years – from the league in its home south Asia market, on its Ten Sports and Ten Action channels.

It is not yet known how the rights to the first professional American Football league in India will be exploited outside of Ten Sports’ home market.

The inaugural league season is due to start next month.
