ESPN has renewed a sublicensing deal with rival international pay-television sports broadcaster Fox Sports Latin America to acquire rights for the Bundesliga top division of German football across Latin America and certain territories in the Caribbean.
The deal, which includes Brazil, covers three seasons, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
Under the agreement, Fox Sports will provide ESPN with exclusive rights to half of the Bundesliga matches per season, some relegation matches played at the end of each season and non-exclusive rights to the German Super Cup knockout tournament in 2016 and 2017.
Additionally, ESPN will have non-exclusive rights to a weekly preview show, Bundesliga Weekly, plus a weekly highlights programme, and numerous other shows produced each season by the German Football League, the DFL, which approved the sublicensing deal through its commercial division, DFL Sports Enterprises.
The deal covers ESPN’s television and digital platforms.
