International sports broadcaster Eurosport has agreed an exclusive deal to distribute content from the DR1 Racing drone racing series in 70 countries across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Eurosport will commence its broadcast coverage with the DR1 Invitational in Los Angeles, California, in the US on November 8.
Eurosport will also broadcast three additional racing series next year, including the inaugural DR1 Champions Series and DR1 Micro Series.
The broadcaster will also stream coverage of Micro Events and will offer additional video content on its website.
Confirmation of the deal comes after Eurosport chief executive Peter Hutton said that the broadcaster was in talks to begin showing drone racing events.
Brad Foxhoven, founder of DR1 Racing, said: “Eurosport showed a genuine appetite to not only broadcast drone racing through its linear broadcast channels but also play an important part in growing the sport via its social and digital platforms too. The growth opportunities of drone racing, both from a high performance and an innovation standpoint, are endless.”
International sports broadcaster ESPN and UK pay-television broadcaster Sky recently agreed to begin broadcasting coverage of the US-based Drone Racing League. The latter has also invested $1m (€909,600) in the league.
