International sports broadcaster Eurosport has acquired rights in the UK and Ireland to this year’s All England Open Badminton Championships, which begin next week.
Eurosport struck the deal with Badminton England, the sport’s national governing body.
Under the agreement, Eurosport will show live match action and highlights packages from the six-day event.
David Kerr, managing director of Eurosport in the UK and Ireland, said: “(The deal) means we can add yet another hugely popular Olympic sport to the likes of athletics, swimming and rowing on the channel in 2016 and beyond.”
The tournament will be held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, England from March 8-13. Chen Long of China and Carolina Marin of Spain, the current men’s and women’s world No.1s respectively, are among the players set to compete.
