Media group Sony Pictures Networks India has struck a sublicensing deal with Facebook to show matches from Spain’s LaLiga in the Indian subcontinent.
Social media company Facebook earlier this month announced it had acquired LaLiga rights in the Indian subcontinent in a three-season deal, from 2018-19 to 2020-21. Sony held LaLiga rights across the region in the previous three-season cycle, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
The indiantelevision.com website today reported Sony will show coverage on its Sony Six and Sony ESPN channels, and via OTT platform Sony Liv. A sublicensing deal was expected, as are sublicensing agreements for the social media company’s English Premier League rights in Vietnam and Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
It added that Sony has struck a deal to show Italy’s Serie A in the Indian subcontinent in a three-season deal with the IMG agency, from 2018-19 to 2020-21. Sony held Serie A rights in the previous three-season cycle, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
