Fifa, the global governing body of football, has signed a content agreement with the International Olympic Committee’s recently-launched Olympic Channel.
Fifa was one of the last remaining major sporting bodies not to team up with the Olympic Channel, and joins a roster of 36 international federations and IOC-recognised associations that have backed the venture.
Fifa’s agreement will cover news access and content licences to promote football within the Olympic movement.
Football has had a presence on the Olympic Channel since the platform launched following the conclusion of the Rio 2016 Olympics on August 21, with fans able to relive moments from the Games such as Neymar’s winning penalty against Germany to claim Brazil’s first gold medal in the sport.
The Olympic Channel is working with sports federations to deliver live events, highlights, magazine shows, news coverage and original programming, as well as technical business solutions.
Major bodies yet to have partnered with the Olympic Channel include the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the International Handball Federation (IHF).
