Peter Vargo, previously the managing director of EHF Marketing, the commercial arm of the European Handball Federation, has been named secretary general of the Austrian Swimming Federation (ÖSV).
The 50-year-old Vargo replaces Thomas Unger, who is stepping down after seven years at the federation.
The ÖSV said that Vargo was chosen after a long selection process featuring “numerous competitors”.
After eight years as managing director of EHF Marketing, Vargo joined Aser Ventures in London in 2016 in a new business role, before moving back to Austria to work for Red Bull Media House, where he went on to become senior rights-holder servicing manager. He left the Austria-based media company just under 12 months ago.
In February 2016, it was announced by the EHF that Vargo had been “released from his contract” as David Szlezak took on his role in an interim basis. Szlezak has since become permanent managing director at EHF Marketing and recently renewed his contract until June 30, 2024.
