Telecommunications company Econet, which operates in sub-Saharan Africa, has agreed a two-season deal for rights in the region to the Formula E electric car-racing championship.
The coverage in 2016-17 will be shown via the Kwesé Sports website, which is part of the Kwesé TV pay-television operator owned by Econet.
Kwesé Sports will stream each race from the 2016-17 season, as well as every practice and qualifying session. The agreement also grants Kwesé Sports exclusive rights, including via television, to the 2017-18 edition of the championship.
Ali Russell, director of media at Formula E, said: “The developing economies of sub-Saharan Africa means that this is a region of the world where there is a great potential for growth, and this means a huge potential for new Formula E fans.”
Formula E will be available via Kwesé Sports in Botswana, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
