Pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports Latin America has extended its commitment to touring car racing by agreeing a rights deal for the newly-formed World Touring Car Cup (WTCR).
Fox Sports will cover the maiden 2018 season of the WTCR, which was launched in December following a licensing agreement between the World Touring Car Championship and TCR series.
Fox Sports was a long-term partner of the WTCC and will show all 30 races from the maiden WTCR season live.
In addition, a highlights programme will air following each event, regular interviews with title-chasing Argentine Esteban Guerrieri will become part of the coverage and a season review programme will also be scheduled.
François Ribeiro, head of WTCR promoter Eurosport Events, said: “Having supported the WTCC for several seasons, particularly during José María López’s triple title-winning era, it’s a measure of the appeal of WTCR that Fox Sports LATAM is continuing its long-term association with Eurosport Events. And in Esteban Guerrieri, there’s every chance that South America will celebrate another world title winner in touring car racing this season.”
The WTCR will hold one round in Latin America. The Race of Argentina is scheduled to take place in Termas de Río Hondo in the Santiago del Estero region from August 3-5.
