Sportdeutschland.TV, the German Olympic Committee’s (DOSB) online sports television channel, has been granted a television broadcast licence.
The broadcast licence has been awarded to DOSB New Media, the operator of the platform, by the German Commission on Licensing and Supervision (ZAK). This was preceded by earlier approval from the Commission on Concentration in the Media (KEK) regulator.
DOSB New Media said the licence is another “important step” in the development of Sportdeutschland.TV and will allow it to form nationally circulated television programming.
Oliver Beyer, chief executive of DOSB New Media, added: “Our aim is that Sportdeutschland.TV shows all the amazing achievements, exciting decisions and moving moments in sports that have been missing for a lot of sports fans in the traditional media.
“We are working together with sports federations, leagues and event operators. The broadcasting license is an essential component of the organisational and legal infrastructure that we are building in addition to the technical components so that our partners can focus on athletic programming content.”
