The Deutschen Tennis Bund, the governing body of tennis in Germany, has sealed a media rights deal with commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1.
The agreement will run for 10 years, from 2013 to 2022.
The governing body and broadcaster will focus on developing the jointly-operated Tennis.de website as a platform for coverage of tournaments, while the Sat.1 Gold channel will show events on free-to-air television in Germany.
Under the deal, ProSiebenSat.1 will be able to show all matches featuring the Germany men’s and women’s national teams during the Davis Cup and Fed Cup tournaments, respectively, as well as some top-tier Premier tournaments on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour, according to the national governing body. Rights negotiations for other tournaments in Germany are ongoing.
“As a digital 360-degree media company with a broad portfolio [of experience] we are ideally positioned for the multimedia production and distribution of tennis,” ProSiebenSat.1’s head of digital, Christian Wegner, said.
