German volleyball showpiece granted landmark free-to-air coverage

The men’s and women’s finals of the German Volleyball Federation’s DVV Cup club competition will be broadcast live on free-to-air television for the first time after the organisation agreed rights deals with regional public-service broadcaster NDR and sports broadcaster Sport1.

The games will take place on March 1 in the Gerry Weber Stadion in Halle. NDR will broadcast the men’s final between SVG Lüneburg and 12-time cup winner VfB Friedrichshafen.

The men’s final is then followed by the women’s game, which will be contested by the Ladies in Black Aachen and Allianz MTV Stuttgart. Sport1 will broadcast the game on a free-to-air basis.

Klaus-Peter Jung, managing director of the Volleyball Bundesliga, said: “The achievements of the teams of the Bundesliga have made the women’s and men’s game more attractive. Therefore, for the first time both finals will be shown on free TV. This, for the entire sport of volleyball, is a very good step.”
