Brazilian media group Globo acquired multi-platform rights to the 2018 and 2022 football World Cups in a deal with Fifa, football’s world governing body.
The agreement covers rights across cable, satellite, and terrestrial television, as well as mobile and internet, for the world cups in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.
Jérôme Valcke, Fifa’s secretary general, said: “Globo’s strength in distribution across such a vast territory as Brazil ensures the tournament can be followed by as many people as possible, and this was the determining factor in our decision to extend the agreement with Globo.”
Globo also has the rights to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil under a deal for all Fifa events running from 2007 to 2014.
