Brazilian media group Globo has acquired rights for two football matches featuring the country’s national team next month.
According to the Folhapress news agency, the short-term deal with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) will cover Brazil’s friendly matches against Japan on November 10 in Lille, France, and against England at Wembley in London on November 14.
The agreement was reached after the CBF stopped short of awarding rights through to the 2022 Fifa World Cup for all Brazil games across any television or digital-media platform in a sales process that was held last month.
The CBF, which was looking for a minimum of $3.5m (€3m) per game through the package, said that it had received offers from multiple companies.
In the same sales process, Globo acquired non-exclusive digital rights to Brazil national team games over the same period.
