Thai media conglomerate GMM Grammy plans to bid for more major sports rights, after acquiring rights for German football’s Bundesliga from 2012-13 to 2014-15, and has established a new subsidiary, GMM 1Sky, to manage its sports content.
GMM has acquired rights for five live Bundesliga matches per week, which it will show on its GMM Sport pay-television channel.
GMM chairman Paiboon Damrongchaitham said GMM 1Sky was seeking strategic partnerships with media and sports businesses in the United States, China and Japan.
GMM’s other sports rights include the Uefa Euro 2012 football tournament.
