The International Association of Athletics Federations has expanded its partnership with the European Broadcasting Union and ESPN Media Distribution to incorporate its World Indoor Tour.
ESPN Media Distribution, the rights agency division of the global sports broadcaster, and the EBU, the consortium of public-service broadcasters, will represent the global media rights – excluding each event’s host territory – to Tour events in Karlsruhe, Dusseldorf and Torun, which each take place in February next year. The agreement also includes the Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow, Scotland, from 2019.
The EBU and ESPN will represent the media rights in Europe and the rest of the world across free-to-air, pay and digital media.
The IAAF in August signed a multi-year agreement with the EBU and ESPN Media Distribution for the sale and distribution of rights to events in Africa and Europe.
The deal covers a broad collection of rights, including the next three editions of the IAAF World Championships and World Indoor Championships, as well as more than a dozen competitions in the World Athletics Series.
The EBU will lead the sale of free-to-air television rights to members in various countries across Europe, while ESPN will oversee the distribution of rights in Africa.
The EBU and ESPN will also collaborate to represent the rights for pay-television, digital media and additional free-to-air opportunities in Europe.
