International Media Content (IMC), the parent company of pay-television broadcaster SportsMax, has acquired rights in the Caribbean for the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
IMC has picked up exclusive English-language pay-television and free-to-air broadcast rights. The deal excludes internet and mobile rights.
The agreement covers Anguilla, Antigua-Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam, Turks and Caicos, and Trinidad and Tobago.
According to International Olympic Committee member Richard Carrión, who led the negotiations, the SportsMax channels will broadcast the Olympics and IMC will “work with free-to-air broadcasters across the Caribbean, ensuring daily coverage of the Sochi Games.”
IMC struck a similar deal for the 2010 winter Games in Vancouver, Canada and the 2012 summer Olympics in London, UK.
