IMG races away with MotoGP rights extension

The IMG agency has agreed a multi-season extension to its television rights distribution deal for the MotoGP motorcycling championship.

The agreement struck with the Dorna Sports agency, which holds the exclusive commercial and television rights for MotoGP, will run until the end of the 2020 season.

IMG, which first started assisting Dorna in the distribution of MotoGP in 2009, will continue as global consultants to the agency and will help with sales in key markets such as Italy, the UK, Germany, Portugal, Eastern Europe and Asia Pacific.

“We have developed a good working relationship over the past few years and MotoGP has benefited from the local expertise that IMG has in many worldwide territories,” Manel Arroyo, managing director of television and media at Dorna Sports, said.

“As the MotoGP World Championship continues to expand and grow in popularity, strong partnerships such as these are helpful in expanding to new markets and continuing the high level of support that we like to offer to our broadcast partners.”
