Fox Sports, a division of US network Fox, agreed a 12-year deal, from 2012-13 to 2023-24, for the rights to show Los Angeles Kings National Hockey League ice hockey games on the Fox Sports West regional broadcaster.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the deal is worth a total of $250 million (€195 million), or $20.8 million per year – up from $12 million per year in the previous agreement.
In order to broker the new long-term deal, Fox Sports agreed to curtail the previous agreement, which was due to run until the end of the 2014-15 season, three years early.
Under the new deal, Fox Sports West will show about 75 regular-season games per year. The total figure will depend on how many Kings contests are chosen by the league’s national rights-holders to be broadcast on an exclusive basis.
Fox Sports West, which has broadcast Kings games since 1985, will also show early round play-off games and pre-season contests.
