Lega Basket issues rights tender for next two seasons

The league has invited bids for three packages: Gold – two live matches per week from the regular season, for a total of 60 matches; Silver – all live matches from the play-offs, for a minimum of 22 matches and maximum of 37; highlights of up to 40 minutes per matchday for both the regular season and the play-offs, with a maximum of five minutes for any single match. All three packages are offered on an excusive, platform-neutral basis.

The league will be hoping for a greater degree of competition than when it last tried to auction its rights, in the spring of 2009. On that occasion it received no bids at all and was forced into private negotiations, with pay-television operator Sky Italia eventually acquiring the rights exclusively for two seasons. Bids must be in by 6pm on February 28. The league is being advised by Bologna-based consultancy StageUp.
