The French football league, the Ligue de Football Professionnel, assigned the video-on-demand rights to Ligue 1, the country’s top division, to Dailymotion.fr, L’Equipe.fr and YouTube in a series of four-year deals.
The agreements, which commence with the 2012-13 season, will provide French football fans with free access to game highlights, goals and interviews via the three platforms. The deals mark the first time such content has been offered through VOD, with the coverage of games being made available from midnight on Sundays.
Dailymotion has provided VOD content from the Coupe de la Ligue since 2010 and Ligue 2, French football’s second tier, since 2011. However, L’Equipe.fr and YouTube represent new partners for the league.
“The football league is an innovator, since no other league has entered into such a partnership with major players in the internet,” LFP president, Frédéric Thiriez, said. “Through these agreements, all the best moments of the Ligue 1 will be available for all to access for free.”
