The Brazilian Basketball League (LNB) has entered into a partnership with Facebook through which it will become the first domestic sports organisation to stream games via the social media platform’s Facebook Live service.
Under the deal, Facebook Live will live stream the five-game final series of the Liga Ouro between Campo Mourão and Vasco da Gama. The series will determine which team gains promotion from the second-tier competition to the top-tier NBB.
The LNB has been live streaming games since early 2014, with over 100 games receiving this coverage to date. However, the latest initiative marks its first such venture with Facebook.
Cassio Roque, president of the LNB, said: “The broadcasts of the games on the internet have been a success. The experience that we can create via the web goes beyond the game through encouraging the interaction of fans with the team on the court. Broadcasting the Liga Ouro through Facebook will be an important action in our strategic plan to continue to make basketball grow in the country.”
The initiative commenced on June 30 as Campo Mourão took a 1-0 lead in the series with a 89-74 victory over Vasco. The second game takes place today (Wednesday).
