Fijian commercial broadcaster Mai TV has agreed a deal for the rights to Fifa football competitions between December 2013 and July 2014 – a package that includes the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Mai TV has sub-licenced the rights from newly-formed media company Click Pacific, which last week was awarded the exclusive media rights to the Fifa tournaments across the Pacific Islands.
Its rights package also includes the Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti in December, the Under-17 World Cup, the Under-17 Women’s World Cup and the Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
Mai TV’s acquisition of 2014 World Cup rights comes after it also broadcast the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
