The Mediapro agency has struck a deal with internet company Google that will grant video-sharing platform YouTube rights to Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, the top division of Brazilian football, across 27 markets in Europe, Asia and Oceania.
The league, more commonly referred to as the Brasileirao, will be available via the channel youtube.com/brasileirao, with Mediapro stating the deal means the competition will be the only major domestic football league to be afforded live coverage on YouTube.
European markets included under the deal are: France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia and the CIS states.
The Brasileirao will be broadcast in the Asian markets of Mongolia, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and the Philippines; along with Australia and New Zealand in Oceania.
The new channel will offer more than 110 live matches from the Brasileirao, as well as highlights from all games played each matchday.
Mediapro holds a sublicensing deal with Brazilian media company Globo to market international rights to the Brasileirao across the four seasons from 2015-16 to 2018-19.
