Mediapro launches OTT platform for Spanish horse racing

The Mediapro agency has agreed a deal with the Asociación de Hipódromos Españoles, the collective body for Spain’s racecourses, which will lead to the creation of an over-the-top streaming platform for domestic horse racing.

Under the deal, Mediapro will produce Spain’s 74 days of racing, distribute national and international broadcast rights and commercialise different advertising formats.

Mediapro said the OTT platform will provide full coverage of all days of racing via the lascarreras.com platform. The agency will also produce a one-hour television programme focusing on the fourth and fifth races of individual meetings.

The 2020 Spanish horse racing season commences on March 1 at Hipódromo de la Zarzuela and runs to December 27 at Hipódromo de Dos Hermanas. Mediapro’s digital terrestrial channel Ten will broadcast live the fourth and five races on day one of the season.

The Mediapro deal comes after horse racing media-rights agency HBA Media this week agreed a short-term deal with FloSports to develop horse racing coverage on the US-based streaming service provider’s over-the-top platforms.

Commenting on that deal, Mike Levy, FloSports vice-president of global rights acquisitions, said: “Horse racing has a massive global audience and has been largely overlooked in the live sports streaming industry.”

HBA Media is working alongside Racecourse Media Group, the holding company responsible for media and data rights distribution to various UK racecourses, to facilitate the distribution of four live horse racing events to the FloSports OTT subscription platform.
